Aloyo’s mother was abducted and became the ‘wife’ of the man who is Aloyo’s father. She says the war lived in her mother, but not in her. Narration overlays visual imagery of children playing with pretend guns, attending school and dancing. It is a quiet and understated and is all the more powerful for it. The VR is most effective when we are surrounded in a staring ring of children, or suddenly in an empty village, watching a hut burn.
