Suddenly 30 (2004)
I don’t love everything that Jennifer Garner does but I find her films usually very watchable and there is something about the characters she chooses and the way she comes across in her socials that makes me like her. She is funny.
Suddenly 30 (AKA 13 Going On 30) is a family-friendly and warm-hearted romcom favourite with some great supporting characters and a memorable soundtrack, including Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby. You can see adolescent Brie Larson and Ashley Benson as Six Chicks if you look carefully and Judy Greer as best friend Lucy is great in just about everything although seems often relegated to playing the goofy sidekick.
It’s an odd thing, having a ‘go to’ actor. I think it’s a combination of a person who is likeable in real life and also chooses films that align with your tastes and values. It’s not infallible *cough Peppermint (2018)* but it’s enough to get you to give their films a chance. There is also the opposite – would that be a ‘run from’ actor? I have an aversion to Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson films now, based on their life choices as well as their tendency to choose bloated, ego-centric films.
Is there anyone who you’ll always watch?
